MAVADO and DI GENIUS team up on HTC European ad campaign

Jamaican dancehall artist MAVADO and producer STEPHEN "DI GENIUS" MCGREGOR have scored another big hit with “Di Gyal Dem” which spearheads the new European advertising campaign for HTC. 

HTC launched its new One X handset and contracted DI GENIUS to produce the background music for the campaign video clip, which was shot in Miami.

MAVADO trial pushed back to February

Jamaican dancehall artist MAVADO, real name is David Brooks, is set to return to court on 12 February 2013 for his assault trial.

The case was scheduled to get underway earlier this month, but a judge adjourned the trial because Brooks’ attorney is engaged in another trial.

Jamaican dancehall artist MAVADO, real name David Brooks, will be back in court on 12 February on a charge of “assault occasioning bodily harm”. 

The confirmation of the new date came up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on 27 September.

MAVADO guilty of assault & malicious destruction of property

David Brooks, better known as dancehall artist MAVADO, has been found guilty of “assault occasioning actual bodily harm” and “malicious destruction of property” in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court.

Brooks pleaded "not guilty" to the charges relating to an incident on the Belmont main road district in July last year, but was found guilty by resident magistrate Wilson Smith and fined JMD$100,000 (£700).

MAVADO and VYBZ KARTEL court updates

The trial of Jamaican dancehall artist MAVADO has been postponed on the same day that VYBZ KARTEL’s second murder case was transferred to the Circuit Court.

According to the Jamaica Observer, a shortage of court rooms at the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates Court forced the postponement of MAVADO’s (David Brooks) trial earlier today (13 March).

MAVADO cancels all shows in the UK; no official reason given

All shows that were scheduled in the UK this month featuring MAVADO, CHIPMUNK, GAPPY RANKS and STYLO G, have been cancelled.

The promoter for the high-profile tour has yet to give an official reason why such action was taken so close to the tour kicking off. Some websites have attributed the cancellation “due to illness”, while another has said they wouldn't give MAVADO a visa to enter the UK.

New date set for MAVADO ‘assault’ trial

Jamaican dancehall artist David Brooks, better known as MAVADO, will now face trial on a charge of assault on 16 May 2012.

According to the Jamaica Observer, Brooks appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on 21 November.

The charge relates to an incident that occurred at BOUNTY KILLER’s birthday bash on 12 June at the Quad Night Club in New Kingston.

New MAVADO single featuring AKON

Dancehall artist MAVADO is set to release a new single later this year in collaboration with hip-hop star AKON,

According to local sources the single, “On Top Of The Mountain”, will be released close to Christmas day, and will also feature new label mate, DJ KHALED.

The track is set to be the debut single from MAVADO’s upcoming, as yet unnamed 14-track album, which is nearing completion.

Jamaican musician MAVADO has announced two big live shows in the UK, featuring UK rapper CHIPMUNK with support from dancehall artists STYLO G and GAPPY RANKS.

JAH CURE axed from MOBO Awards

Reggae artist JAH CURE has been dropped from the UK’s MOBO Awards after organisers found out he was a convicted rapist.

The Jamaican singer, whose real name is Siccature Alcock, was up for the "Best Reggae Act" at this year’s Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards
