THE ACES and THE GLADIATORS to play at Festival Jamaica 2012

DESMOND DEKKER’s original backing band THE ACES and THE GLADIATORS will be performing their greatest hits at the Festival Jamaica 2012 later this month in Stratford.

Live concerts at the festival include:

THE ACES (Carl St Clair, Barry Hall and Black Steel) were originally approached by Leslie Kong, DESMOND DEKKER’s late manager, and came to England as DESMOND DEKKER AND THE ACES in the late 60s.

Expect to hear ACES hits like “Israelites” and “007 (Shanty Town)” along with THE GLADIATORS’ “Hearsay”, “Jah Works” and “Dreadlocks The Times Is Now”.

Other musical highlights over the 17-day festival (27 July – 12 August) include JERRY DAMMERSTHE ORIGINALS, NO-MADDZ, BLACK SLATE and the ALLAN WEEKES REGGAE JAZZ QUARTET.

The Maryland Complex in London will be transformed into cultural spaces, performance stages and lush tropical jungle to celebrate Jamaica’s 50th year of Independence and the anticipated success of the island’s athletes during the Olympic Games.

Highlights of the festival include performances of 'The Harder They Come', cooking demonstrations in the ‘Reggae Kitchen’ with celebrity chef Colin Brown.

Also part of Festival Jamaica 2012 is 'The Reggae Exhibition', which includes three rooms documenting the island’s rich musical heritage from mento to dancehall.
