The London International Ska Festival returns to the capital this weekend and features 40 top ska acts from around the world.
Among the many highlights of the bank holiday weekend (3-6 May), DANDY LIVINGSTONE is set to play his world exclusive comeback show after 40 years on 4 May at the O2 Academy Islington.
LIVINGSTONE released some all-time classics including “Rudy A Message To You” and “Suzanne Beware Of The Devil”, as well as being Britain's leading reggae producer and instrumental in establishing Trojan Records.
According to Academy Events, the festival line-up will showcase:
“all ska has to offer from its roots in rhythm and blues, mento and calypso, to the Jamaican originators, the progression through rocksteady and reggae, 2 Tone, ska-punk and right up-to-date with 21st century ska sounds.”
Other acts across the weekend include THE PIONEERS starring Jackie Robinson and George Dekker (“Let Your Yeah Be Yeah” and “Long Shot Kick De Bucket”), the voice of DAVE AND ANSELL COLLINS - DAVE BARKER, OWEN GREY, FREDDIE NOTES and RICO RODRIGUEZ MBE.
From the 2Tone era comes THE SPECIALS’ NEVILLE STAPLE, the founder and guitarist of THE SELECTER - NEOL DAVIES and Stiff Records artists THE EQUATORS (who celebrate their 30th anniversary).
Contemporary acts THE DUALERS (launching Prince Buster Shakedown), THE SKINTS, SKA CUBANO and PHOENIX CITY ALL-STARS will all be appearing at this year’s festival.
DJs across the four days include Jerry Dammers, Don Letts, Gaz Mayall, Andy Smith, Dreadzone Sound System and many more.
