Live review: ALBOROSIE makes Brixton debut

Italian reggae artist ALBOROSIE, backed by Jamaican band SHENGEN CLAN, finally made his debut London appearance at the Electric Brixton earlier this month.

The big show - put on by Italian promoters GoMad Events, DeepBrass Prod and Intergalactic Music - was the only London date (10 April) of the Sicilian-born singer’s European Spring Tour and not surprisingly, the gig was rammed.

The large number of London-based Italians in attendance was also to be expected, most of whom seemed to know every single lyric once ALBOROSIE's explosive set kicked off.

From the outset his powerful performance shone through and the packed audience reciprocated in equal measure and then some.

Early tunes like “Ring the Alarm” and “Herbalist” were aired and mixed in with new Sound The System tracks like “Play Fool (To Catch Wise)”.

By the encore, where fans were even treated to a cappella opera, it was onto some of his big tunes to wind up the set, including “Police Polizia”.

Now residing in Kingston, Jamaica, here’s some footage of “Kingston Town” from the Brixton show:

This event was long-overdue and ALBOROSIE did not disappoint a very hungry South London crowd.

With just one other performance in Bristol outside of London, surely a full tour is on the cards when he makes it back to Europe next time?

Support on the night came from ROOTIKAL’s MR FASO and the BRIXTON HEIGHTS CREW.
