Deadline set for International Reggae Poster Contest entries

The organisers of the second-ever International Reggae Poster Contest (IRPC) have confirmed that the closing date for submissions is 30 March.

The 2013 contest was officially launched towards the end of last year and organisers started accepting poster entries from 23 December.

A jury of international design professionals will select the winning posters, which will be published in a catalogue, exhibited and auctioned.

The event follows the first poster contest last year, where exhibitions were held in Kingston (Jamaica), Athens (Greece) and Rototom Sunsplash (Spain). THE ALPHA BOYS BAND performed at the opening of the Kingston exhibition on 30 September.

Alon Braier of Israel won the top prize in 2012 for his “Roots of Dub” poster. It featured KING TUBBY, LEE "SCRATCH" PERRY and AUGUSTUS PABLO, and used recurring circles to represent dub echoes.

The initiative will help raise funds for two charities: the Alpha Boys’ School and HELP Jamaica! Proceeds will also help establish a Frank Gehry-designed Reggae Hall of Fame Museum and performance centre in Kingston.
